I now have some real-life, actual patrons! First to sign up was my dad (thanks dad), with my mother following suit shortly after (thanks mom). And now my Aussie friend Claire has joined the pack too (thanks Claire).
My immediate goal is to have a 100 patrons by June next year, which would mean that I’ll have earned enough money to cover the production costs of the “Start Here” CD. That’s 3 down, 97 to go…

I was under some pressure this weekend: I had to finish the arrangement for More by Sunday night, so I could send the work-in-progress mix to Ruben, who will redo some of the guitar work this week and then ping that back to me just in time for the final mix, next weekend. Yay for looming deadlines…

Ruben came over on Friday to record some very nice guitars, which I’ve been slicing and dicing into the mix over the weekend. In early april, I explained why I now have free downloads: so that you may download my music, put it on your iPod or stereo, listen to it lots of times and then, hopefully, you will become a fan!
Naturally, the next question I asked myself is: how am I going to make money, if my music is free? (it’s always about the money, innit?) The long term answer is easy: concerts! Fans go to concerts and artists get paid to do them - problem solved! The catch, of course, is that you need a lot of fans buying tickets for a concert tour to be profitable. Your numbers just ain’t big enough for that yet. Plus you are everywhere! This would be a lot easier if you where all bunched together in a town near me, but no, you had to go and scatter yourselves from Los Angeles all the way to Melbourne! Ugh! So, if touring is out for the moment, then what?
